The Sunreef 80 Power Eco – a 40-metre mega-catamaran that’s as luxurious as it is eco-friendly…

Not that long ago, the idea of a sophisticated craft as large as your house and green, was the stuff of clickbait. Today there are many fully electric luxury boats, like the Sunreef 80 Power Eco from Poland. This is no ordinary luxury catamaran though, this 40 metre monster makes 33 metre yachts look like bath toys.
Those in the million-dollar yacht market are becoming increasingly eco-aware, and this catamaran does deliver when it comes to green tech. Featuring Sunreef’s patented solar skin system, 2,152 square feet of solar panels are integrated into the hull sides and superstructure to generate up to 36 kW of clean energy and therefore clean conscience.
The highly-efficient battery bank is 30% lighter than the industry standard and powers the cat’s twin 180 kW electric motors. If that doesn’t float the boat, another 15 kW of energy can be recovered from the propeller rotation through hydrogenation, a type of Viagra to expand its capabilities.
In addition to the zero-emission propulsion, the boat also features DC-powered air conditioning and water purifying, among other devices. Plus, unlike your uncle’s speedboat, it’s built with sustainably-sourced materials and finished with non-toxic paint.
Inside, it’s a floating Vegas. Other yachts may have a cinema, spa, and library onboard, but this has a bigger cinema, spa, and library. You can enjoy all the uber-rich facilities indoors and on upper deck – all while laughing at the 33 metre yachties.
It’s all fun and games until someone with money to burn pulls up in a 40-metre behemoth. An Eco was recently sold for almost $9.5 million minus customisations. Not just a yacht, it’s a city on vacation. Is it needed? Probably not. Is it wanted? Absolutely.
