Alice – The Rocks, Sydney

Hidden gem, Alice has recently opened up as an exclusive cocktail and champagne bar catering to the who’s who of Sydney’s elite.

This swanky venue is the latest love child from the Hunter St. Hospitality group, the same group behind distinguished Sydney restaurants, Rockpool Bar & Grill, Sake and Spice Temple.

Finding this venue is half the fun. It’s situated on the basement level of a heritage-listed building on Argyle Street. Guests enter via an ambient stairwell with walls covered in rich velvet drapes, while downstairs you’ll find velvet covered booths, ostrich feathered lamp shades and hues of gold and red that create a decadent atmosphere.

Alice is fully committed to giving its guests top of the line VIP service. We spoke to VIP guest relations manager Yasmine Hajjaj who advised that no request is too big or small for their guests. They offer an exclusive partnership with Rolls Royce who, on request, can transport you between each of their venues. Yasmine recommends starting the evening at one of their fine dining restaurants, and finishing the night at Alice to enjoy one of their amazing cocktails or a choice of one of their limited edition bottles of champagne served by your own private waitress. Our goal is to make every single guest feel special in a venue that reminds you of the fancy European lifestyle that you would see in Monaco, Monte-Carlo or St Tropez.”

Their mischievous menu of cocktails is certainly worth visiting for. If you’re after something a bit playful, try the Lofi Fruit Fizz, a mix of coconut, watermelon and Poor Tom’s Gin. Or for something on the sour side, try their Te Queiro, a mix of Patron, Yellow Chartreuse and Agave.

The menu was designed by chef Corey Costelloe and suitably complements the beverages. You might start with their caviar served with tater tots and crème fraiche as well as their fresh Sydney rock oysters with yuzu dressing. Or perhaps opt for their ‘blackened’ king prawn skewers or chicken liver parfait profiteroles. Finish this off with something sweet like their passionfruit marshmallows or delicious ice cream sandwich.

This luxury venue is perfect for serious celebrations and is a unique destination for foodies and party revellers alike. Private rooms are also available to hire for more intimate celebrations.
