What does your job involve, Will?
I’m one of 10 crew members on the Camper boat and it’s my job to make decisions that get us to the next port quickly without anyone getting hurt. That can mean providing a safe course through treacherous places like the Southern Ocean, finding winds when things are slow or making sure we don’t have any hassles with big lumps of moving sea ice.
Yeah, we hate it when that happens! Sounds like a tough gig.
I’m pretty experienced as a navigator, but this race is the toughest test because we have to work in an environment where you don’t have enough sleep and you live with 10 other blokes in a shoebox. The conditions are also brutal, decisions have to be made straight away, and if you stuff it up, the whole world gets to see
