The new Suzuki Hayabusa is upon us, with the iconic Japanese marque confirming the third generation having landed in Australia. Not just equipped with relentless power, Gen III receives a host of rider aid updates for 2022 – to enhance the legendary experience.
The 2022 edition is still Hayabusa from every angle, although more streamlined and aerodynamic; the ‘Hayabusa’ and Japanese Kanji logo design remain, although more pronounced.
The soul of this beast remains the legendary 1340cc inline four cylinder engine, which has been refined to achieve better overall performance. Forever connected to Suzuki’s infamous ride-by-wire throttle, you can dial in power with the precision of a dentist’s drill and power through where other bikes hit the skids.
Now with every electronic aid Suzuki could possibly throw at, the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) optimises performance characteristics and makes this beast more controllable – handy for us humans. There’s 10-stage traction control, 10-stage wheelie control, six different power modes, and even slope decent control – which prevents the rear wheel from lifting and flipping under heavy braking.
Despite its wet weight of 264kg it does not act up in the corners; feeling more like a 600cc bike, outweighing expectations, while always tempting the rider to test the limits.
Pulling up the ‘Busa are Brembo Stylema 4-piston calipers and 320 mm dual floating discs up front, and a Nissin single piston caliper with a 260 mm disc out back. Additionally, the new Hayabusa features a bi-directional quickshifter, LED lighting, and a new instrument cluster which includes a TFT LCD panel.
With a limited supply for Australia, it will come in Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Burnt Gold and Metallic Matte Sword Silver/Candy Daring Red. Delivering temptation at its finest, much like Gen 1 and Gen 2 – the Gen III is a worthy addition to the family.
