Meet the business woman, fitness fanatic and passionate animal activist on a mission to impact people’s lives…

Wonderful photo shoot, Rachel, congrats on your first MAXIM Australia feature. How do you feel?
I’m so honoured to work with the super-fantastic team at MAXIM and be featured this month. We shot this at Miami Beach [in Florida USA] and it was only my second visit there but with how cold the weather is getting in New York, where I live, it was amazing to have my toes in the water and sun on my face.

When do you feel sexy?
I feel my sexiest and absolute best when I’m sweating head to toe after a morning workout. At a minimum I get two hours every morning, but if time allows I like to stretch it to three. If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you!

What is your best asset?
My brain is by far my best asset – it has gotten me many places in life that looks simply can’t. I think every decision, from start to finish, try to analyse the outcome, weigh up the positives and negatives. I’m definitely in depth when it comes to thinking out my next move.

Give us a little more background about yourself and your life story.
I graduated college for business and opened a tanning salon when I was 20. Owning a business at that young of an age really opened my eyes to responsibility and how rewarding it is to make real money for yourself. Shortly thereafter I went back to school for fitness, more specifically yoga and Pilates instruction, which is where I got really into physical fitness and nutrition. I currently own a clothing retail business, selling fashion and fitness wear. I model and shoot all my own pieces and manage my site right down to physically packing
and shipping the items.

What’s the best advice you would give to others wanting to get or stay fit?
Never compare yourself or your progress to others. Don’t give up just because you had a bad day, missed a workout or went out to eat and strayed from your diet. I love going out to eat and I love nice restaurants – I just know the next day in the gym to go twice as hard to burn a few extra calories. Never deprive yourself because stress can mentally and physically take a horrible toll on your body.

When you’re not modelling or running your company what can we find you doing?
Volunteering at PetSmart, with two local organisations focused on rescue and adoption with cats and kittens. I foster, volunteer and do anything I can that helps animals to find their forever homes and lead healthy and happy (nine) lives.

What would people be most surprised to know about you?
I’ve been working on writing a book for the past 10 years, and the reason I haven’t finished it is because my journey is so far from over!

Where’s the best place you’ve ever travelled?
Until this past month it was the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, but after flying to Miami for this MAXIM feature, I got to experience my first trip to a cat cafe! Spending time with all of the beautiful, adoptable rescue cats and kittens of Miami was easily the experience of a lifetime. I got to donate, play and enjoy my true passion in life. Wish we had this up north in New York!

What’s the first thing you will do once all travel restrictions are lifted?
I’ve always had Greece and the Maldives on my bucket list for travel. They’re stunning in photos and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things from friends who’ve travelled there.

Have you ever been to Australia?
I’ve never been to Australia, but it looks absolutely beautiful! I know that it’s the sixth largest country in the world, and the only continent covered by a single country, which is pretty impressive if you ask me!

What’s one thing you’d change about the world?
Of course, being in animal rescue I have to say suffering, abuse, neglect and animal testing in laboratories by major companies. Animals are amazing, intelligent, beautiful beings with so much love and emotion to give us.

Besides the trolls/haters, what do you dislike about social media?
The capability it has to impact people’s lives negatively, because of standards or comparisons to others.

What have you learnt about men over the years?
Men and women have an incredible ability to compliment and improve each other’s lives. A relationship can directly impact your happiness or enthusiasm day to day in your career. A man who loves and supports you can take you further in your career than you ever thought possible.

What’s one thing men should always know about women?
Women are sensitive and look to a man for support, affection and shared happiness. Be our best friend, and our other half. We want to succeed and grow together with you.

What do you look for in a man?
I look for a sense of humour and wit. I love a man who loves sports and can fix or build anything around the house. Don’t get me wrong, I love to get my hands dirty, but watching a man paint, build or fix a car is certainly so attractive.

How can a man win his way to your heart?
Be honest, be hard working and be yourself. Make me your world and only have eyes for me. That’s the most incredible feeling.

If you had to take MAXIM on a date, what would it entail?
We’d take a private boat tour to a remote island for a sunset dinner, cooked by a private chef. Couples’ massages on the beach in a beautiful candlelit cabana with (virgin) pina coladas served out of a fresh cut coconut.

Sounds perfect! What’s the sexiest thing a guy can do in bed?
A sexy, confident smile is still the biggest turn on.

What’s next for you? Any exciting projects on the horizon you can share with us?
After My visit to Miami and the cat cafe, I’ve been doing my research upstate. I would love to open a cafe or small rescue/foster home for kittens and cats awaiting their forever homes. It’s definitely rapidly becoming a goal for me now that I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy the experience and see how many lives it impacts so positively. ■
