Heather McCartney

From stripping naked at an AFL Grand Final to social media trolls, dick pics and looking for Mr Right, the bold, brave, bodacious businesswomen, controversial collaborator, model and part-time snake catcher reveals all…

Your MAXIM cover photo shoot is amazing, Heather, congrats! How do you feel?
I feel excited. This is a great opportunity, thank you! The location – a stunning house on the Gold Coast – was so beautiful and the weather was perfect. I also got to wear my favourite colours of swimwear.

Well, you look great. What would you say is your best asset?
My positive attitude and ability to get along with many different personalities. I also think I have a great smile, good calves (LOL), am intelligent, determined, fit, well-groomed and caring.

That’s a decent list! So, when do you feel you are at your sexiest?
When I have a great tan – I love that healthy glow. Also, when I receive a matching lingerie set – nothing beats new lingerie.

Tell us a little more about your background and life story so far.
I was born and grew up in Scotland, went to university and then started travelling the world modelling. I came to Australia as a backpacker, fell in love with the place and decided to make it my home. I’ve had a few hurdles since I’ve been here but it’s made me into who I am today. I’m grateful for everything I have and the opportunities I have had in life.

Speaking of hurdles, you gained notoriety as the girl who stripped naked in a corporate box at the 2014 AFL Grand Final. For those who don’t remember, tell us how this incident unfolded.
It was a bucket list moment. The opportunity arose for me to be in the corporate box at the football, I took a female friend with me and we were having fun. I took it a bit too far, as usual, and I ended up in the newspapers worldwide. You can’t buy that type of advertising!

Of course! What did you learn in this stunt’s aftermath?
I Iearnt how to piss off one half of Australia and win over the other half. It was very controversial. That’s how I roll.

Any regrets or would you do it again?
No regrets — I made history. Why would I regret that? But I wouldn’t do it again – there’s no way I could top that. Nobody could.

Besides the above, what would people be most surprised to know about you?
Probably that I’m well educated – I have two separate bachelor degrees. What else? I’m really good at golf, I’m a regular fundraiser for charity, I’m currently learning how to drive and I’m a part-time snake catcher in Queensland.

When you’re not doing all these things or posing for MAXIM, what do you do?
I travel around Australia, as much as I can, doing photo shoots, promotions and collaborations with various companies. I’ve also started my own business, Hair Blaze, and I’m involved in the beauty industry.

You have over 324k+ Instagram followers – what’s the weirdest thing you’ve received via social media?
I’ve been sent lots of weird things like photographs and collages of men and myself that I’ve never met. Love letters and fantasy stories. I used to have a P.O. Box that I used but stopped that real quick. Now I have an Amazon wish list for those who want to gift me appropriate items that I will appreciate and need.

Some men think women actually like being sent dick pics. Thoughts?
Depends who is sending it and if you fancy them. It can be a shock when you are unexpectedly confronted online with one in a random message. If you are sexting with each other and she asks for one then yes, otherwise don’t do it – ever!

How do you handle the haters and social media trolls?
I’ve never really paid any attention to them. They breed us tough in Scotland – it just goes over my head. If anything, I’m flattered they are even trying to get my attention. I find it funny.

Would you ever date one of your followers?
Never say never – so, yes. I mean, there are a lot of interesting people out there. I just need to find them somehow and we might have a connection. Who knows?

What do you look for in a guy?
A hard worker, good sense of humour, can hold a conversation, secure and knows how to handle a Scottish woman.

How can a man potentially win his way to your heart?
Appreciate that I’m no shrinking violet, give me my space when needed and wine and dine me with no expectations – I’m not a cheap date, either! Push me to be my best self, celebrate my victories and don’t hold grudges.

Describe your ideal date.
Spontaneous activities, island hopping, thrill-seeking and romantic dinners in unusual locations.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes, of course. I’m waiting for it to happen. I just need a push in the right direction.

What’s next for you?
I’m planning on travelling more of Australia when and where I can, I would like to continue modelling for brands, doing podcasts, more fundraising and potential TV work…oh and be swept off my feet by potential suitors, of course.

Lastly, finish this sentence: Public nudity is…
A part-time hobby. ■
