The funny, free-spirited, adventurous dreamer and Canadian beauty makes her MAXIM cover debut…
Congrats on your first MAXIM cover, Jessica. How does it feel?
Thank you so much! Shooting for MAXIM is a dream come true and I am so excited to have this opportunity to shoot for MAXIM Australia, especially in such an exotic and beautiful location in the Middle East. We did this photo shootr in a very beautiful resort just outside of Dubai in Ras Al Khaimah.
Nice. What did you love most about this photo shoot?
My favourite part of the day while shooting was getting to spend time in the ocean, which is one of my favourite pastimes.
Were there any on-set issues with the location or otherwise?
I had heard all about the crazy desert heat in the Middle East but I have never experienced it first-hand. I think it’s safe to say that we were all melting! Gabriel, the photographer, even had a heat flash at one moment and we had to go cool off! But, he’s such an amazing and passionate photographer and really pushed through.
When do you feel sexy?
Feeling sexy definitely starts from within — it’s about loving yourself, being kind to yourself and others and having confidence.
What’s your best asset?
Physically, I would say my eyes are my best asset. Otherwise, my sense of humour!
Tell us a bit more about yourself.
I’m from Montreal, Canada. When I was 15 I got scouted at a supermarket in my hometown and this was the beginning of my international modelling career. It has taken me to many destinations around the world and allowed me to meet amazing and creative people while representing different brands. When I’m not working or travelling for work, I love to just kick-back with my family and close friends.
What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
That I have a passion for anthropology and once lived with a tribe deep in the Amazon jungle, called the Yanomami. Some people say I’m very adventurous!
Describe a typical day for you.
I work out five days a week, which is a huge part of my life, so I usually start my day like this and work on maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Otherwise, I’ll either be working and doing various different photo shoots. Each day is always different depending on the brand and location, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic effected your every day life?
During this COVID-19 lockdown I’ve tried to work on bettering myself, reading books and delving into different creative outlets. Also a lot of eating, cooking, talking to friends and, of course, Netflix!
What can you beat anyone at?
I can beat anyone at a game of Twister!
What have you learnt about men over the years?
That if a man cares enough he will make it known and you won’t have to second guess.
How can a man possibly win you over?
By being a chivalrous gentleman who makes the effort. To be honest I’ve been so focused on work these last few years that I haven’t had much of a dating life. I’m always on the road and focused on furthering my career. However, I have learnt that a man will level up to your expectations — if you treat yourself with respect, others will respect you.
Describe your perfect date.
My perfect date would be a sunset dinner on the beach in the Maldives with a well-bodied, vintage bottle of Tignanello.
If you had to take MAXIM on a date, what would it entail?
I would take MAXIM to my home town of Montreal for an authentic experience of the place that shaped me. We would go on a food tour and experience the culturally rich Old Montreal and our national dish, poutine, which is a delicious combination of fries, cheese and gravy.
SOLD! What’s one thing men should always remember about women?
That women are excellent researchers! Ha!
What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
To have the courage to live a life true to yourself, not the life others expect of you, and that you are powerful beyond measure. If you work hard enough you can have, do, or be anything! Your dreams can come true and nobody should tell you otherwise. Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.
Got any big plans for the rest of 2020 once this coronavirus is sorted?
I’m on holidays in Europe this summer and my work will resume in the fall. I have a few campaigns coming up which I’m so excited about – they are shoots for certain brands which can’t be disclosed at this time, but stay tuned! ■
