Daria Gavrilova

Ahead of the summer tennis season, the Aussie ace and all-round Goddess, discusses her hypothetical last day on Earth…

How do you want to leave this world?
I want to leave this world without any regrets. I want to try and help people and be happy – and helping people makes me happy!

What’s your last meal?
This is really tough. Probably a good spaghetti carbonara. Anything pasta or carb-heavy would be good.

What was your greatest sporting achievement during your time on Earth?
Being in the Fed Cup team is pretty amazing and I’ve had some pretty good runs at the Australian Open.

What do you know now that you didn’t at 18?
I haven’t changed much, I’m still trying to improve. The big one is to control the controllable and with the things out of your control there’s nothing really you can do. You just gotta let go!

Who was your favourite teammate during your time on Earth?
I played with Sam Stosur and that was really amazing. I look up to her so much.

What would you like to be reincarnated as?
Can it be as a human? If so, I’d like to live life as a man, just to see how it is to be a male!

Do you think you’re going to Heaven or Hell?
Have you seen that show The Good Place? I don’t really believe in it but I hope I go to heaven. I’ve done some non-heavenly things, though.

What will God say to you when you get there?
He’ll probably say to me, “I actually exist!”

Got any last words?
Enjoy life as much as you can and make connections. ■
